Project Purpose
In design since 2016, this project on NM 68 from La Posta to US 64 at Camino de la Placita/Rivali Lane is designed to:
- Correct physical and geometric deficiencies
- Reduce congestion
- Improve safety and mobility
The project is also based on the following purposes:
- Maintain and safely manage business, tourist, resident and pedestrian access along the corridor
- Manage on-street stormwater flows
- Correct pavement (roadway) deficiencies
- Provide safer, better-connected bicycling and pedestrian facilities
Project Features/Benefits
The project includes a number of major features and benefits:
- Road reconstruction and widening from 3 to 4 lanes on NM 68/Paseo del Pueblo from La Posta Road to south of Los Pandos Road
- Reconstruction of the 3-lane NM 68/Paseo del Pueblo from south of Los Pandos Road to La Placita/Quesnel
- Pavement reconstruction of the 2-lane US 64/Paseo del Pueblo from La Placita/Quesnel to Martyr’s Lane
- Pavement rehabilitation of the 2-lane US 64/Paseo del Pueblo from Martyr’s Lane to La Placita/Rivali
- Realignment of four major intersections
The project also includes:
- Coordination of traffic signals
- Building of new sidewalks and repair of existing sidewalks
- Addition of bike lanes and/or bike share lanes
- Creation of mid-block pedestrian crossings north of Martyr’s Lane
- Storm drainage improvements
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) enhancements
- Landscaping
